Hollywood Style Lindy | Balboa and Collegiate Shag | Private Lessons



Do you need help with your swivel?  Do you want help dancing over 250 beats per min in the social dance floor.  Do you want some personal attention to take your dancing to the next level? We are here to help.  We teach private lessons not only to many local dancers, but also to dancers all over the country.  Private lessons can be given regarding anything, but some possible ideas are described below... 

Where:
Private lessons are taught in many places.  We will work it out...:)

When:
At a time that will work for you and that fits into our schedule.

Who is teaching: Privates can be scheduled with Steve as time permits.

Cost:
   Private lessons (2 couples or less..):
        $45/hour

    Small Group Lessons (5-8 people):
         $10-20/hour/person

FUNDAMENTALS: Whenever dancers take group lessons from anyone they always have questions.  We find that, like any type of dance, each dancer will find his/her own way of doing things.  We are there to help find the way that works for you.   The following are frequently addressed issues that student like help with:

1. Hollywood Style Lindy

  • Leads/follows are not perfect on the dance floor...tips for social/practical dancing.  
  • Touch up on basic Hollywood moves (How do I make my moves look "Hollywood"?)
  • What do you mean by equal counterbalance?
  • How to make the feet move faster?
  • How to lead/follow without being slow or heavy?
  • How to spin without falling?
  • What makes a good lead/follow?
2. Collegiate Shag and Balboa
  • What are Shag and Balboa
  • How do I stop bouncing?
  • How do I improve connection and lead/follow more effectively?
  • I am not comfortable with my shag or Bal, what can I do to relax when I am dancing so fast?
3. Savoy Style Lindy
  • Too many times we see everyone doing the same moves the same way. We teach you how to play around and improvise on the dance floor.
  • Our class focuses on how to LEAD AND FOLLOW.
  • We want you to be able to lead most of your moves to anyone that you meet.
ADVANCED TOPIC: We do not offer an advanced class because most of the advanced topics are too difficult to teach effectively in a group class.  So we offer private lessons instead. The following are some examples of advanced topics:

1. Hollywood/Savoy Style Lindy

  • Guys: HOW TO HIT BREAKS!  How to time your moves 18 beats ahead and hit a specific part of the music with a specific part of a move.
  • Ladies:  How to follow more effectively and improvise with out back leading.
  • How to combine both Hollywood and Savoy in the same song...or even the same move!!!!
  • CONNECTION!!!!!
  • Changing Lindy from 8 and 6 counts to a fundamental 2 count dance...
  • Foot work substitutions.  How to change footwork and improvise while doing basic or complicated figures.

2. Collegiate Shag and Balboa

  • How do to dance over 270 beats per min..
  • Ways to make up your own shag and Bal moves
  • Complicated patters that can be led
  • Styling of fast Shag and Bal
3.  Anything else that we have not thought of that you would like to work on.
