Hollywood Style Lindy| Balboa and Collegiate Shag | Private Lessons



Steve Bailey and Sara Fajkowski are gearing up for a great series of lessons and want YOU to come and swing the night away with US. Not only are the classes a great time, they are right near the Porter Square "T" stop.  We are going to be teaching beginner and intermediate Hollywood smooth style lindy classes with an hour of dancing afterward.

THE BEGINNER CLASS is designed for a dancer who has danced a bit, but would like to learn and become more comfortable with the Hollywood smooth style. We are going to emphasize technique and this series and we are going to be teaching many different moves including the following:

1. HOLLYWOOD style Lindy

  • Send outs, whips, passes, and most basic styling moves that are used in Hollywood style.
  • Technique on triple stepping, spins, and moves that are a bit complicated than similar Savoy style moves that don't require partner counterbalance. Our most important goal is for our students to relax and become comfortable with improvising on there own.
2. Collegiate Shag and Balboa
  • We are going to be teaching one or the other in every six week series. We recommend everyone go through the beginner class twice for the technique which means most students should already know Shag and Balboa before they move on to the intermediate class
  • For all of you crazy kids that love the BIG BAD VOODOO CHERRY ZOOT SUIT ZIPPER SMELLIN' SQUIRREL DADDIES (as the (in)famous Bernstein would say). This neat little variation on six count lets mere mortals dance at lightning speed.
  • It is a dance consisting of fast foot work excellent for the crowded nightclubs of DC. We will teach moves never before taught in the DC area.
3. How to relax and break all of the rules
  • Too many times we see everyone doing the same moves the same way. We teach you how to play around and improvise on the dance floor.
  • Our class focuses on how to LEAD AND FOLLOW.
  • We want you to be able to lead most of our moves to anyone that you meet.
THE INTERMEDIATE CLASS is designed for a dancer who has either taken the beginner Hollywood class or that can dance the style very comfortably in a social scene. This class is probably most complicated intermediate class we teach. We are going to be including the following: 

1. Hollywood style Lindy

  1. Rhythm circles, advanced quick stops, and combinations to WOW everyone on the dance floor.
2. Intermediate/advanced Hollywood technique
  • Technique on spins, switches, and moves that are a bit complicated than moves in the beginner class. Our most important goal is for our students to relax and become comfortable with improvising on there own.
3. (one of the 6 weeks) Shag/Balboa... yes you heard right... Shag/BALBOA!!  These dances have great variations that will let you bust loose in the smallest space. Students should already know the basic of either and be comfortable with dancing them in a social setting. 

4. How to relax and break all of the rules

  • This is the most intermediate you get. We are going to be taking the class beyond the level of learning moves and to the point of trying to understand the dance.
  • We teach you how to play around and improvise on the dance floor.
  • Our class focuses on LEAD AND FOLLOW. We want you to be able to lead most of our moves to anyone that you meet.
